Andrew Budden
Andrew Budden started his career working for a national building products company back in 1985. He progressed quickly into the construction industry working for Amec, where he gained a deep insight into the practical and financial issues facing large construction companies. Andrew played a central role in devising and implementing a new integrated financial IT strategy for the company, as well as centralising its regional financial operations.
Moving on to act as Financial Director for a large computer software business, Andrew used his past experience to overhaul its financial functions. This included devising and implementing a strategy that re-structured the company’s financial control and costing systems.
A few years later Andrew decided to move back into the construction industry as Financial Director of David McLean Homes. Under his stewardship, staff numbers within the accounting function grew by 300%, reflected in the growth of the business to a turnover of £150 million.
It was here that Andrew met John Batterton and Hamilton Charles was formed.
John Batterton
After leaving university in 1987 where he studied Quantity Surveying, John joined Tarmac Construction, one of the largest construction companies of the 1980’s. Head hunted by Grimley JR Eve, he was recruited and quickly made head of their regional quantity surveying department. Here he obtained an in depth understanding of the commercial and financial issues facing construction companies and their clients.
Now armed with the ability to advise banks, insolvency practitioners and employers, John decided to set up his own consultancy practice. Targeted at all sectors of the construction and property industries, John worked with a myriad of customers providing commercial services to main contractor sub contractors and the legal profession.
Due to his involvement with David McLean Contractors on a consultancy basis, John was approached by the company in January 2007 and offered the role of Commercial Director.
It was here that he met Andrew Budden and Hamilton Charles was formed.
